From the view of a koala as a vulnerable species
Humans can be heroes. But humans also caused the mess in the first place.
After a video of a woman rescuing a koala from a bushfire went viral, global attention was directed to the status of koala populations.
While koalas aren’t functionally extinct like recent news reports have suggested after the Australian bushfires, they are declining in numbers.
The species has been slowly dwindling in population over the past two decades, partly due to the impacts of climate change.
Along with bushfires, habitat loss, deforestation and heatwaves have also contributed to the decline in koala populations.
